The fine print
Terms of Service.
Welcome. The Kairoscene is a short-film studio and creative practice, operated as part of the Dearly Beloved Project, a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a nonprofit arts service organization. In these terms, “the Kairoscene,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean the Dearly Beloved Project / Kairoscene. By using this website (thekairoscene.com) or taking part in a session, you agree to these terms.
What the Kairoscene is — and what it isn’t
The Kairoscene is a creative experience: we help you make a short film, and we offer guidance, encouragement, and a community along the way. It can feel therapeutic — good creative work often does — but it is not therapy, counseling, psychiatric treatment, medical advice, or crisis support, and it is not a substitute for any of those. We take no position on anyone’s care; whatever happens in any other room of your life is between you and the people you’ve chosen for that work.
If you are in crisis, please reach out to real-time support. In the US, call or text 988.
Booking a session
When you send a booking request, you’re telling us you’d like to find a time — it isn’t a confirmed appointment. A session is scheduled only once we’ve agreed on a time together, and we may set up a short conversation first to make sure the Kairoscene is a good fit. We may decline, reschedule, or end a session where needed — for example, if it’s not the right fit, or to keep the space safe and respectful for everyone.
Payments, fees, and refunds
Introductory conversations are free. If and when we offer paid sessions or packages, the price and any cancellation or refund terms will be shown clearly before you pay, and those terms will apply to that purchase. Fees you pay for sessions are earned revenue for services — they are not charitable donations and are not tax-deductible.
Donations
Donations to support the work are made through our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas, and are governed by Fractured Atlas’s own terms and policies. The Dearly Beloved Project / Kairoscene is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of the Dearly Beloved Project / Kairoscene must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. We do not receive or store your payment information.
Your stories and your films
Your story is yours, and the films you make are yours. We claim no ownership of the creative work you bring or make with us. We will never share or publish your work without your permission; if we’d love to feature something, we’ll ask first. In return, you are responsible for the material you use in your film — making sure you have the right to use any music, footage, images, or likenesses, and that your film doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights or break the law.
Using this website
Please use the site and our services lawfully and in good faith. Don’t attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the site; don’t misuse the forms; and don’t use the Kairoscene to harm others. The site’s text, design, and media are owned by us or used with permission — please don’t copy or reuse them without asking.
Other services we link to
The site connects to tools run by other companies — for example, booking and contact forms (Tally), embedded film players (YouTube), donations (Fractured Atlas), and, in the future, community spaces. When you use those, their terms and privacy practices apply, and we’re not responsible for their content or conduct.
No warranties; limits on liability
The website and our services are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We do our best, but we can’t promise the site will always be available or error-free. To the fullest extent allowed by law, the Dearly Beloved Project / Kairoscene and Fractured Atlas will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site or our services. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that can’t be limited under applicable law.
Changes
We may update these terms as the Kairoscene grows. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Texas, unless the law requires otherwise.
